Passport Policy
The Government of Pakistan issues passport to its bonafide citizens to facilitate their journey and provide them protection while travelling in foreign countries through the good offices of Pakistan Diplomatic Missions. Accordingly, the holder of a valid Pakistan passport, when in a foreign country, is entitled to the protection of diplomatic and consular representative of Pakistan in that country.
Passport is the only document that confirms the identity of the citizen abroad of the Republic of Pakistan, as well as, realizes his/her right to exit from the country and entry into the country.
Policy: Every Citizen of Pakistan is entitled to Machine Readable Passport for traveling abroad, subject to completion of all codal formalities.
Important Note: The Passport Act of 1974 contains strict provisions to ensure the integrity of the passport issuance process and prevent fraudulent activities. It is essential for all citizens to be aware of the offenses related to passports and the associated penalties. It is also very essential, for all citizens to uphold the law and maintain the integrity of the passport system. Engaging in any of the below-mentioned offenses carries severe legal consequences including 3 years impressments or fine or both.
Before applying passport, please take note of the following:
- False Statements: Making or using false statements in any document to obtain a passport.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Attesting False Statements: Attesting or verifying statements known to be false in documents used for obtaining a passport.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Concealing Facts: Willfully concealing, any information that should be disclosed to obtain a passport.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Forgery or Tampering: Forging, altering, or tampering with a passport or related documents.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Use of Forged Passport: Using a passport that has been forged, altered, or tampered with.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Use of Forged Documents: Using forged, altered, or tampered documents to obtain a passport.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Wrongful Possession: Being in wrongful possession of a passport not lawfully issued to you or allowing someone else to use your passport.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Trafficking in Passports: Engaging in the trafficking of passports or documents required for obtaining a passport.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Failure to Return Passport: Willfully failing to return a passport when required to do so, or when an order to cancel or impound it is issued.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
- Multiple Passports: Obtaining more than one passport for oneself, either in the same or different names, while concealing the possession of another passport.
Penalty: Imprisonment of up to three years, a fine, or both.
